Maher Salti, a 43-year-old man from Cleveland, Ohio, tragically lost his life on February 11, 2025, in a fatal shooting at a gas station in East Cleveland. The incident occurred at approximately 6:38 p.m. at the Ohio Gas station on Noble Road, near Nela Park. Salti had arranged to meet an individual to sell an iPad, a transaction facilitated through Facebook Marketplace. However, the exchange took a deadly turn when he was shot and subsequently robbed in the parking lot.
Following the attack, Salti was transported to a nearby hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries. East Cleveland police launched an investigation into the case, uncovering critical details about the circumstances surrounding his death. Authorities identified 19-year-old Shaheed Rakin Mincy as a suspect and issued an aggravated murder and aggravated robbery warrant for his arrest. Law enforcement officials are continuing their search for additional individuals who may have been involved in the crime.
The tragic event has raised concerns about the safety of online marketplace transactions, particularly those involving high-value items such as electronics. Experts emphasize the importance of conducting exchanges in secure locations, such as police department lobbies, which offer surveillance and protection. Some local police departments, including those in Parma and Parma Heights, have established designated safe exchange zones under video surveillance to prevent similar incidents.
As the investigation continues, authorities urge anyone with information regarding the case to contact the East Cleveland Police Department. The community remains shaken by the loss of Salti, and efforts are underway to ensure justice is served in this heartbreaking case.
