In the quiet evening of April 18, 2025, the life of 34-year-old Samson Green, an African American man, was tragically cut short in Orangeburg, South Carolina. Green was standing outside the Crown Inn motel on Bamberg Highway when he was fatally shot. Deputies from the Orangeburg County Sheriff's Office responded to a call about the shooting at approximately 8:30 p.m. and found Green deceased at the scene.
The ensuing investigation into Green's death led to a series of arrests.
On April 30, 2025, authorities apprehended 27-year-old Daquan Montrell Milhouse-Keitt after a search in a wooded area and charged him with murder. The following day, two brothers, 20-year-old Titus Banton Jr. and 21-year-old Tynes Banton, were also taken into custody and faced murder charges. Titus Banton Jr. was additionally charged with possession of a weapon during a violent crime.
Several others were implicated for their alleged roles in the events surrounding the shooting. Shadeed Smith, 42, was charged with accessory before the fact of a felony, and 26-year-old Nathaniel Isaiah Roberts was charged with accessory after the fact of murder. As the investigation continued, a seventh arrest was made in May, with a 17-year-old being charged with murder. Another individual, Kiza Banton, was arrested and charged with accessory after the fact.
The Orangeburg County Sheriff's Office has continued to investigate the circumstances of Samson Green's death, indicating that their work is not finished until everyone involved is held accountable. Authorities have also publicly sought information about another person of interest known only as 'Quan,' who they believe may have critical information related to the shooting. Funeral services for Samson Green were held on May 3, 2025, at the House of Praise Non-Denominational Church of Deliverance in Orangeburg.
