In the fall of 2024, the life of 18-year-old Marquise James Walker was cut short in Rapid City, South Dakota. On the evening of September 30th, a shooting occurred inside an apartment located in the 4000 block of Range Road. When authorities arrived, they discovered three male individuals with gunshot wounds. All three were transported to a local hospital for medical attention.
Marquise, a senior at Central High School, succumbed to his injuries the following day, on October 1, 2024.
Known affectionately as "Marq" or "Q," he was a well-rounded young man with a passion for life. He was an avid athlete, participating in basketball, football, baseball, and track. Beyond his academic and athletic pursuits, Marquise was a devoted family man. He was the eldest brother to five younger sisters and cherished spending quality time with his loved ones. He was also a father and was expecting a second child with his fiancée.
The Rapid City Police Department, in conjunction with the Pennington County Sheriff's Office, is actively investigating the shooting. Authorities have indicated that they believe all individuals involved in the incident were acquainted with one another and have stated that there is no ongoing threat to the public. As of the immediate aftermath of the event, no information regarding any arrests or specific suspects in connection with the death of Marquise Walker has been publicly released. The investigation remains active as law enforcement continues to analyze physical evidence and gather information from those who were present at the time of the shooting.
