In the small town of Port Allegany, Pennsylvania, a young woman's life was tragically cut short in February of 2025. K-Leigh Hill-Nelson, a 28-year-old female, was a beloved mother, daughter, and sister. A 2015 graduate of Port Allegany High School, she had built a life centered around caring for others as a certified nursing assistant at Lakeview Healthcare & Rehabilitation Center in Smethport. She was known by family, friends, and coworkers for her kind and caring soul and her deep devotion to her young son.
The community was shaken when K-Leigh was found deceased. The circumstances of her death were soon revealed to be a result of gun violence. The investigation into her death quickly led law enforcement to a suspect.
Brian Austin Kuchinka, identified as K-Leigh's ex-boyfriend, was arrested and charged with criminal homicide in her death. He was taken into custody and jailed without bail. In the months following the arrest, the case proceeded through the legal system. The McKean County District Attorney's office began to explore the possibility of seeking the death penalty, filing motions to seek additional time to determine if aggravating circumstances existed to qualify the homicide for such a severe penalty. Kuchinka is also facing three counts of aggravated assault and various other charges in connection with the incident.
