On Oct. 27, 2013, Ben was fatally shot in Birmingham's East Lake neighborhood. The shooter has never been found.
That night, a Sunday, Jim was in his Gardendale home by himself. His wife, Ben's mother, had died just three weeks prior of breast cancer.
