In the quiet community of Edmond, Oklahoma, the life of 61-year-old Xiao Hua Wang was tragically cut short on the evening of January 4, 2025. What began as a brazen home invasion escalated into a fatal encounter, leaving a family and community in shock. That night, individuals forced their way into Wang's residence on Pinnacle Lane with the intent to rob the home. During the course of the crime, Xiao Hua Wang was shot and killed.
Another woman in the home at the time of the invasion was thankfully unharmed.
The Edmond Police Department immediately launched a homicide investigation, and their efforts quickly led to the identification of potential suspects. Within a short period, two individuals, Robert Dewayne Mayfield Jr. and Tauriawn Knight, a former Edmond basketball standout, were apprehended and became the first to be charged in connection with the murder and burglary. The investigation, however, did not conclude with these initial arrests, as law enforcement believed others were involved in the deadly home invasion.
As the investigation progressed, authorities uncovered a wider conspiracy. Their diligent work, in collaboration with other agencies including the Oklahoma City Police and the U.S. Marshals Service, led to the arrest of four additional suspects in April. This brought the total number of individuals in custody to six. The subsequent charges against the group were expected to range from murder and accessory to murder to burglary and conspiracy, painting a clearer picture of a coordinated effort that resulted in the senseless death of Xiao Hua Wang.
