In the quiet community of Hazleton, Pennsylvania, the life of 39-year-old Jessica Ann Lockwood was tragically cut short in April 2025. A dedicated mother of two, volunteer firefighter, and emergency medical technician with the Harwood Fire Company, Lockwood was a woman known for her selflessness and commitment to her community. Her sudden disappearance on April 26, 2025, after failing to pick up her son, sent a wave of concern through those who knew her.
The following morning, a grim
discovery was made on Club 40 Road. Firefighters responding to a report of a mannequin on fire found a human body that had been wrapped in a tarp and set ablaze. The remains were soon identified as those of Jessica Ann Lockwood. An autopsy would later reveal the horrifying details of her death; she had sustained blunt force trauma and a fatal gunshot wound before her body was burned. The investigation into her death was immediately ruled a homicide.
Investigators quickly zeroed in on a suspect, 55-year-old Terence Leroy Ray. Evidence suggested that Lockwood had gone to Ray's residence on Muir Avenue to purchase pain medication. Investigators believe an altercation occurred at Ray's home, where they later discovered a significant amount of blood and other evidence linking him to the crime. Surveillance footage captured Ray moving Lockwood's vehicle and his own vehicle near the location where her body was later found.
Following the murder, Ray fled the area, prompting a 10-day manhunt. He was eventually apprehended by U.S. Marshals in Yonkers, New York, on May 8, 2025, and extradited back to Pennsylvania to face charges. Terence Leroy Ray was charged with criminal homicide, abuse of a corpse, and tampering with evidence. The case against him is proceeding through the court system.
