In the Southeast Portland neighborhood of Lents, on the evening of February 20, 2025, a grim discovery was made inside a travel trailer parked near Southeast 84th Avenue and Southeast Insley Street. Paramedics, responding to a medical call, found a man deceased under what police would later describe as 'suspicious circumstances.' The man was identified as 37-year-old Jeremiah S.
McKenzie of Portland.
Responding to the scene at approximately 9:12 p.m., Portland Police officers confirmed the death, and the Homicide Unit was called in to lead the investigation. Based on their initial findings, the case was immediately treated as a homicide. An autopsy conducted by the Medical Examiner later confirmed these suspicions, determining that Jeremiah S. McKenzie, a male, died from a gunshot wound.
As of the days following the discovery, no arrests have been made in connection with the shooting.
