In the Jamaica neighborhood of Queens, a dispute that began on a city bus tragically escalated, ending the life of 16-year-old Sincere Jazmin on a Wednesday afternoon. Sincere, a Black male who was a student at John Bowne High School and an aspiring rapper and fashion designer, was shot once in the chest after exiting a Q83 MTA bus at the corner of Liberty Avenue and 172nd Street on March 26, 2025.
The argument had started on the bus with another teenager who attended a different high school.
After being shot, Sincere stumbled across the street and collapsed in front of a deli at 171-42 Liberty Ave. A worker at the C.Y. Deli Grocery called 911 after Jazmin sat down at the front door and collapsed. Emergency services responded and transported him to Jamaica Hospital Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.
In the days following the shooting, the New York Police Department released surveillance footage of a person of interest and executed a search warrant at the home of a 16-year-old male. Though the teenager was not present at the time, his mother was interviewed by authorities. The suspect, who is also from the St. Albans area, had reportedly fled New York after the incident.
Months later, on a Tuesday morning in June, the 16-year-old suspect surrendered to police at the 103rd Precinct in Jamaica. He was subsequently arraigned in Queens Criminal Court and charged with murder in the second degree and criminal possession of a weapon. Due to his age, his name has not been publicly released.
