On the evening of May 12, 2025, 24-year-old Alvin Steele was fatally shot in a motel room at the Loyalty Inn on Lucky Penny Street in Charlotte, North Carolina. The tragic incident occurred around 6 p.m., when gunfire erupted inside the room where Alvin was staying. Motel staff, upon hearing the shots, immediately contacted emergency services. Paramedics and law enforcement arrived at the scene, but Alvin was pronounced dead on-site.
The young man, who was known for his loving nature and deep affection for animals and people, leaves behind two children.
According to reports, Alvin’s girlfriend discovered his body in the motel room, covered by a sheet and pillow. Investigators later determined that the shooting stemmed from a dispute involving a woman. The suspect, identified as Tyler Minor, had been staying with Alvin at the motel. Minor called 911 himself, admitting to shooting his friend. His father attempted to turn him in to authorities, but Minor fled by jumping out of the car on the way to the police station. He was eventually arrested on May 14 and charged with murder. During his court appearance, Minor was denied bond.
Alvin’s grandmother, Ernestine Steele, spoke out following his death, urging an end to gun violence. She recalled her last memory of Alvin—him visiting her home the day before his death to give her a Mother’s Day card. She described Alvin as a respectful and affectionate person, struggling to comprehend the senseless nature of his killing. The case remains a stark reminder of the devastating impact of gun violence in the community.
