An 18-year-old Newark man, Alex Cruz, was fatally shot in East Orange just days before Christmas in 2024. The incident unfolded on the evening of December 22, when a motor vehicle crash at the intersection of North Arlington Avenue and New Street led to a grim discovery. Responding East Orange Police officers found Cruz inside one of the involved vehicles, suffering from a gunshot wound.
