On a Sunday morning in Las Vegas, on September 24, 2017, the life of 26-year-old Darrion Bolden, a Black man, was tragically cut short. The incident unfolded in the parking garage of the Manhattan Condominiums on East Serene Avenue. Evidence at the scene suggested that Bolden was ambushed and then desperately fled from two men, who confronted him in the garage. As he ran, he was shot in the back.
Residents of the condominium complex reported hearing the commotion and seeing a dark-colored SUV speeding away from the scene around 7 a.m.
Bolden was discovered unresponsive in the parking garage and was pronounced dead at the scene. The Clark County coroner's office later confirmed that he died from a gunshot wound to his left back and ruled his death a homicide. For nearly a year, the case remained a focal point for investigators as they worked to bring those responsible to justice. The motive was initially unknown, but police believed the shooting was a targeted attack.
Nearly 11 months after the shooting, an arrest was made in connection with Bolden's murder. Las Vegas homicide detectives identified 36-year-old Jeffery Vance Jeter as the primary suspect. According to the arrest warrant, investigators determined that Jeter had waited for Bolden to arrive at the parking garage that morning. It is believed that Jeter, the ex-boyfriend of Bolden's girlfriend, ambushed him upon his arrival home. Phone records placed Jeter in the area at the time of the shooting, and it was noted that he had no other reason to be at the apartment complex so early in the morning. The investigation revealed that Jeter had called Bolden's girlfriend multiple times from a blocked number within two hours of the fatal shooting. Police believe Jeter turned off his phone after the incident and fled to California. He was eventually apprehended and booked into the Clark County Detention Center, facing a charge of murder.
