On the evening of June 21, 2024, a tragic event unfolded in Helena, Montana, that ended the life of Bernadette Tasheena Ann Johnson, a 42-year-old White/Caucasian female. The incident occurred around 9:30 p.m. near the intersection of Prospect Avenue and North Washington Street. Johnson was in her vehicle when another car blocked her path.
The driver of the other vehicle, later identified as Kenneth William Greene, who had been in a prior relationship with Johnson, exited his car and
fired into her SUV. Emergency services were called to the scene, and Johnson was transported to St. Peter's Health, where she was pronounced dead shortly after 10:00 p.m. from a gunshot wound to the chest.
Witnesses at the scene provided a description of the shooter and the events that transpired. This information led authorities to identify Greene as the primary suspect. Early the following morning, law enforcement located and apprehended Greene at Morrison Park. A handgun was recovered at the time of his arrest. Court records later revealed a history of violent behavior, with Greene having six prior felony convictions. It also came to light that he had allegedly expressed intentions to harm Johnson before the fatal shooting. The vehicle Greene was driving was registered to both him and Johnson.
In January 2025, Kenneth William Greene was convicted of deliberate homicide for the death of Bernadette Johnson. Following the guilty verdict, he faces a sentence of up to life in prison. Sentencing has been scheduled for a future date.
