On April 24, 2025, the quiet community of Drew, Mississippi, was shattered by a tragic act of violence that claimed the lives of 19-year-old Kamaya Sims, her 18-year-old sister Bromeshia Sims, and their 40-year-old mother, Aquilla Wallace. The three African American women were found deceased in their Joseph Street home in what was determined to be a triple homicide. The manner of their deaths was by shooting.
The ensuing investigation quickly led authorities to three suspects. A foot chase took place in the nearby city of Rome, Mississippi, involving the suspects. During the pursuit, two of the suspects were successfully apprehended by law enforcement. The third suspect, while being pursued, sustained a self-inflicted gunshot wound. He was airlifted to the University of Mississippi Medical Center for treatment but ultimately succumbed to his injuries. One of the deceased suspects was later identified as James Kendrick. The identities of the other two suspects have not been publicly released.
The bodies of Kamaya Sims, Bromeshia Sims, and Aquilla Wallace were transported to the Mississippi State Medical Examiner's Office for autopsies. While arrests have been made, the motive behind the devastating slayings remains unclear as the investigation continues. The loss of the three women has deeply affected the Drew community, leaving friends, family, and neighbors to mourn the sudden and violent end to their lives.
