In the midst of a joyous Mardi Gras celebration in Mamou, Louisiana, tragedy struck, claiming the life of 17-year-old Bryson Green. A student at Cecilia High School, Green was the second-youngest of six siblings. On Tuesday, March 4, 2025, during an outdoor Zydeco concert, the festive atmosphere was shattered by the sound of gunfire. Witnesses reported hearing at least ten gunshots ring out, creating chaos and panic among the crowd.
When the violence subsided, Green and another teenager,
16-year-old Alaya Christian, were found to have been fatally wounded. In addition to the two lives lost, the mass shooting left eleven other individuals injured. The incident sent shockwaves through the community, turning a time of celebration into one of mourning and disbelief. Family and friends remembered Bryson as a young man who always made sure his sisters were protected and who brought joy to those around him.
Following an extensive manhunt, law enforcement officials apprehended a suspect in connection with the deadly shooting. Trea'land Ty'rell Castille, 19, was located and taken into custody at an apartment complex in South Montgomery County, Texas, by a team of U.S. Marshals, the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office, and the Conroe Police Department. Castille is facing serious charges for his alleged role in the incident, including two counts of first-degree murder, ten counts of attempted second-degree murder, and five counts of aggravated assault with a firearm. He is awaiting extradition back to Louisiana to face the legal consequences of the tragic events that unfolded during the Mamou Mardi Gras celebration.
