On a summer evening in Mamou, Louisiana, the life of 19-year-old Jason Jamal Patin, a male, was tragically cut short. On Wednesday, June 9, 2021, on the 1800 block of Louanna Street, Patin sustained a fatal gunshot wound to his left shoulder. The injury proved to be severe, and he ultimately succumbed to it, leaving a community in mourning. The Evangeline Parish Sheriff's Office immediately launched an intensive investigation into the homicide, dedicating countless hours to unraveling the
events of that fateful night and bringing those responsible to justice.
The initial phase of the investigation quickly led to a significant breakthrough. A 15-year-old male juvenile from the Mamou area was identified as a suspect. In a turn of events the following evening, he peacefully surrendered to the authorities. After being taken into custody, he was charged with second-degree murder and it was determined that he would be tried as an adult for the serious crime. This initial arrest marked the beginning of a series of developments in the case as investigators continued to piece together the full scope of the incident.
Further investigation by the Evangeline Parish Sheriff's Office uncovered evidence suggesting the involvement of others in the death of Jason Patin. This led to the identification and subsequent arrest of two additional individuals. One of the suspects, Darius Tezeno, also from Mamou, was questioned and charged with accessory after the fact to second-degree murder. The third person taken into custody was another 15-year-old male juvenile from Mamou. He faced a charge of principal to second-degree murder. At the time of his arrest in this case, he was already being held in Monroe on unrelated charges.
