In the heart of Baltimore, a life was abruptly cut short on March 6, 2025. Taijah Addison, a 27-year-old male, was discovered inside a vehicle on the 700 block of Yale Avenue in the Southwest District, suffering from a gunshot wound to the upper body. The call came in at approximately 12:55 p.m., and upon their arrival, patrol officers found Addison, who was pronounced deceased at the scene by medics.
The initial investigation quickly pointed to a homicide, setting in motion a search for the person responsible for this brazen daylight shooting.
The investigation swiftly led to a person of interest, thanks in large part to a review of surveillance footage from the area. Within a day of the shooting, on March 7, 2025, an arrest was made. Baltimore Police took 27-year-old Matthew Crawley into custody without incident in the 500 block of Yale Avenue, not far from where the fatal shooting occurred. Crawley, also a resident of Baltimore, was transported to the Central Booking Intake Facility to face charges for his alleged role in Addison's death.
Matthew Crawley was formally charged with first-degree murder, firearm use in a felony violent crime, and possession of a firearm with a disqualifying felony conviction. The case proceeded to trial, where evidence against him was presented. This included surveillance footage that reportedly captured Crawley exiting a minivan, circling Addison's vehicle, and firing multiple shots. The evidence also included the recovery of a firearm from a nearby dumpster. Following the presentation of the case and deliberations, a jury found Matthew Crawley guilty on all charges, including first-degree murder. He now awaits sentencing for the killing of Taijah Addison.
