In the quiet town of Abbeville, Louisiana, a young man's life was cut short in a sudden burst of violence that left the community shaken. Tavian Anthony Young, a 20-year-old male, was fatally shot on the evening of Friday, April 18, 2025. Young was behind the wheel of his tan 2012 Chevrolet Tahoe, traveling
northbound with a female passenger and a three-year-old child. In a terrifying sequence of events, an unknown individual or individuals unleashed a volley of. 223 caliber rounds at the moving vehicle. A single bullet struck Young in the right side of his body, just below the armpit, inflicting a mortal wound. Despite his grave injury, the Tahoe continued to move, turning east onto Charity Street before crashing into a utility pole in the parking lot of Landry's Laundromat. Another passenger, a woman, was also struck by the gunfire, sustaining a gunshot wound to her head. Miraculously, the toddler in the vehicle was unharmed.

Despite their efforts and those of the Abbeville Fire Department to administer CPR, he was unresponsive and was pronounced dead at the scene by the Deputy Coroner. The injured female passenger was located on Prairie Avenue and rushed to a local hospital for treatment, where she was reported to be in stable condition. The uninjured child was later picked up by a family member.
