On January 26, 2025, 16-year-old Makai Rodriguez was fatally shot in Chicago's Altgeld Gardens neighborhood. The incident occurred around 12:10 p.m. inside a residence on the 13100 block of South Corliss Avenue. Makai, an African American teenager, sustained nine gunshot wounds and was transported in critical condition to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where he was later pronounced dead.
