The incident took place on the night of December 28, 2024, at approximately 10 p.m. on the 1000 block of Burnett Street. Johnson was among seven individuals, ranging in age from 17 to 19, who were shot during the gathering. She was rushed to a hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries.

Johnson, who was just weeks away from her 18th birthday, had been preparing for college and had received multiple letters from different institutions. Her family, devastated by the loss, has been vocal in their pursuit of justice, urging authorities to find the person responsible for her death. Her grandmother, Marion Warren, expressed her grief and determination, stating that the family would continue to seek answers.
Surveillance footage from a nearby residence captured a young woman with blood on her chest frantically seeking help after the gunfire erupted. The homeowner, frightened by the chaos, did not open the door, while her son attempted to call 911 but was unable to get through. The six other victims sustained non-life-threatening injuries, but details regarding the circumstances leading up to the shooting remain unclear.
