In the small town of Francisco, Indiana, the life of 51-year-old Malisa 'Missy' Kegg was cut short in a tragic and violent incident on December 31, 2024. On that day, she and her son, Michael R. Kegg III, were discovered inside their burning home on East State Road 64. First responders initially believed the deaths were a result of the fire, but the Gibson County Coroner later determined that both Malisa and her son had died from gunshot wounds to the chest.
This revelation turned a heartbreaking fire investigation into a double homicide case.
The investigation into the deaths of Malisa and Michael quickly focused on Malisa's ex-husband and Michael's father, 53-year-old Michael Kegg Jr. Evidence gathered by the Gibson County Sheriff's Department suggested that the fire was intentionally set to conceal the murders. Investigators found spent shotgun shells at the scene and noted that a struggle appeared to have taken place. On January 1, 2025, the day after the bodies were discovered, Michael Kegg Jr. was arrested and charged with two counts of murder. He is being held without bond.
As the investigation continued, a second suspect was identified. On October 1, 2025, authorities arrested 34-year-old Amanda N. Kegg on a warrant for Conspiracy to Commit Murder. Her arrest marked another step forward in the ongoing effort to bring justice for Malisa and her son. The case against Michael Kegg Jr. and Amanda Kegg is proceeding through the legal system.
