On February 16, 2025, Edgar Ortiz-Escamilla, a 32-year-old Latino male from Long Beach, California, was fatally shot in the 1700 block of Long Beach Boulevard. Officers responded to reports of gunfire at approximately 4:30 p.m. Upon arrival, they discovered evidence of a shooting but did not immediately locate the victims. Shortly after, authorities were informed that two male victims suffering from gunshot wounds had been dropped off at a local hospital.
One of the victims, identified as Edgar Ortiz-Escamilla, succumbed to his injuries, while the second victim was listed in stable condition.
Homicide detectives launched an investigation into the incident, suspecting it to be gang-related. However, the precise motive and circumstances surrounding the shooting remained unclear. After nearly two weeks of investigative work, authorities identified the suspect as John Paul Mcintyre III, an 18-year-old resident of Long Beach. On February 28, 2025, Special Investigations Detectives, with assistance from the Long Beach Police Department SWAT team, arrested Mcintyre at a residence in Los Angeles. He was subsequently transported to Long Beach City Jail, where he was booked on charges of murder. His bail was set at $3,000,000.
