In the quiet of an Indianapolis senior living community, a visit between acquaintances turned deadly, leaving a 63-year-old African American woman, Georgia Ann Beans, dead from a gunshot wound. On the morning of March 9, 2025, officers from the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department were called to the Serenity Manor, an independent senior living facility on the city's east side, where they discovered Ms. Beans' body in the apartment of a fellow resident.
The Marion County Coroner's Office would later confirm her death as a homicide.
The investigation quickly focused on the apartment's resident, 60-year-old Darrien Curry. According to court documents, the chain of events began when Curry's son contacted 911 to report that his father had confessed to shooting a woman in his apartment the previous night. When detectives spoke with Curry, he allegedly admitted to shooting Ms. Beans. He claimed she had come to his apartment the evening before, and they had spent the evening together. Curry told investigators that Ms. Beans had been drinking and became argumentative around midnight. He stated that after he asked her to leave multiple times and she did not, he shot her once.
Curry's confession, as detailed in court records, included admissions that Ms. Beans was unarmed, had not assaulted him, and that he was not injured during the incident. He also allegedly acknowledged that he did not contact the police after the shooting. Investigators recovered a revolver from the scene, which Curry reportedly admitted was stolen and had been in his possession for about a year. Based on the investigation and his statements, Darrien Curry was arrested and preliminarily charged with murder. The Marion County Prosecutor's Office formally filed a murder charge against him on March 12, 2025.
In the wake of her tragic death, Georgia Ann Beans' daughter, Antoinette Beans, set up a fundraiser to help with funeral expenses, expressing her grief and stating that her mother was left alone for over 12 hours after being shot. Graveside services for Ms. Beans were held on March 29, 2025, in Beulah, Mississippi.
