In the early evening of Tuesday, March 4, 2025, a tragedy unfolded at a Shell gas station in Stonecrest, Georgia, that claimed the life of 24-year-old Keon Smith. An African American male, Smith was at the gas station located in the 2900 block of Panola Road when he was fatally shot.
DeKalb County police were dispatched to the scene around 7:10 p.m. following reports of a shooting. Upon their arrival, officers discovered Keon Smith with a gunshot wound to the head. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The DeKalb County Medical Examiner's Office later confirmed his identity.
Detectives at the scene cordoned off the area around the gas pumps to speak with witnesses and collect evidence. At this time, authorities have not released information regarding a possible motive for the shooting.
The investigation into Keon Smith's death is ongoing. No arrests have been made, and police have not publicly identified any suspects or persons of interest in connection with the homicide.
