On the evening of March 26, 2025, the life of 33-year-old Dipree Devante Jones, a Black/African American male from Waterloo, Iowa, was tragically cut short. Just before 10:00 PM, Waterloo Police and Fire Personnel were dispatched to the parking lot of Ryder Logistics at 2280 Northeast Dr. following reports of a shooting. Upon their arrival, they discovered Jones down and immediately began administering lifesaving measures.
He was quickly transported to a local hospital, but unfortunately, he was later pronounced dead.
Born in Lexington, Mississippi, Jones was known for his vibrant and cheerful spirit, leaving a lasting impact on those who knew him. His death has created a profound void in the lives of his family and friends. The investigation into the shooting led Waterloo detectives to identify a suspect in the case.
Following their investigation, authorities arrested 21-year-old Martavious J'Qualin Reed, also of Waterloo. Reed has since been charged with first-degree murder in connection with the death of Dipree Devante Jones. While an arrest has been made, law enforcement has indicated that the investigation is still ongoing. They have encouraged anyone with information to contact the Waterloo Police Detective Division or Cedar Valley Crime Stoppers. In the wake of this tragedy, funeral services for Jones were held at Mt. Calvary MB Church in Tchula, Mississippi, where loved ones gathered to honor his memory.
