Eduardo "Eddie" Perez, a 28-year-old bartender at the Glades Club in Homestead, Florida, tragically lost his life in a fatal shooting on March 2, 2025. The incident occurred at approximately 8:45 p.m. at the bar located in southwest Miami-Dade County. According to authorities, the violence stemmed from a physical altercation inside the establishment between Perez and 62-year-old Paul Edward Koch, a Miami resident. The dispute led to Koch being escorted out of the bar, but he later returned armed with a handgun retrieved from his vehicle.
Upon re-entering the bar, Koch was confronted by Perez, who once again asked him to leave. Instead of complying, Koch fired multiple rounds at Perez, fatally wounding him. The violence did not end there—Koch proceeded to the outdoor patio area, where he shot and killed another patron, identified as Marc Hess, a drummer who had been enjoying the live music at the venue. Witnesses described the scene as chaotic, with approximately 100 patrons scrambling for safety as gunfire erupted.
Authorities confirmed that neither Perez nor Hess were armed at the time of the shooting, and neither had provoked Koch. The incident reportedly stemmed from a misunderstanding over a spilled drink. A third individual, attempting to flee the scene, accidentally shot himself in the leg with his own firearm. Miami-Dade Fire Rescue transported him to a hospital as a trauma alert.
Koch was arrested and charged with two counts of second-degree murder. As of the latest reports, he was being held at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center without bond. The case remains under investigation, with law enforcement officials continuing to gather evidence and witness statements to build their case against Koch.
