On a spring day in Greensboro, Georgia, the life of Rod-Riez Dameyian Tripp, a 30-year-old Black man, was tragically cut short. On April 4, 2025, while at his job at Plantation Quail, a local meat processing plant, Tripp was shot multiple times by a co-worker. The incident, which shattered the midday calm around noon, took place at the lower processing warehouse of the facility located on Georgia Highway 15 South.
First responders and law enforcement who arrived at the scene found Tripp grievously wounded and immediately began administering life-saving measures. He was rushed by ambulance to Piedmont Athens Regional Medical Center, but his injuries proved to be fatal, and he was pronounced dead at 1:45 p.m.
The suspect in the fatal shooting was identified as 42-year-old Dimas Sanchez Ruiz, a fellow employee at Plantation Quail. In the immediate aftermath of the shooting, Ruiz was found in the parking lot of the business, calmly smoking a cigarette and drinking a beer, seemingly waiting for law enforcement to arrive. He was taken into custody without incident by deputies from the Greene County Sheriff's Office and officers from the Greensboro Police Department. A 9mm handgun, believed to be the weapon used in the shooting, was also recovered at the scene. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation was called in to assist with the investigation into the homicide.
Following his arrest, Dimas Sanchez Ruiz was charged with malice murder, felony murder, and aggravated assault. The motive for the deadly workplace encounter was reported to be bullying, with Ruiz later confessing to shooting Tripp because he claimed Tripp had been picking on him. Court proceedings in the case culminated on a Monday in November 2025, when Ruiz pleaded guilty to murder in Greene County Superior Court. As a result of his guilty plea, Dimas Sanchez Ruiz was sentenced to life in prison with the possibility of parole. The resolution brought a measure of justice to the family of Rod-Riez Tripp and the community, with the District Attorney's office acknowledging the diligent work of the Greene County Sheriff's Office and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation in bringing the case to a close.
