Desiree Chanel Brown, a 36-year-old African American woman, tragically lost her life in a violent incident in Miami, Florida, on April 5, 2025. Brown, a dedicated Transportation Security Administration agent, was inside a dark-colored SUV with two children—a 12-year-old boy and an 11-year-old girl—when the vehicle was ambushed in Biscayne Gardens.
The attack occurred in the early hours of the morning, around 1:05 a.m., when multiple shooters approached the vehicle and opened fire, striking all three occupants.
Emergency responders rushed Brown and the two children to the Ryder Trauma Center at Jackson Memorial Hospital. Despite medical efforts, Brown succumbed to her injuries, while the children remained in critical condition. Authorities have not yet confirmed whether the attack was targeted, but Brown’s family has expressed their belief that she was not the intended victim. The vehicle belonged to Brown’s boyfriend, and the children involved were her daughter and her boyfriend’s son.
Law enforcement officials have indicated that multiple suspects were involved in the shooting, but no arrests have been made at this time. The Miami-Dade Sheriff's Office continues to investigate the case, urging anyone with information to come forward. Brown’s daughter, 19-year-old Kaniya Brown, has publicly pleaded for justice, calling for those responsible to turn themselves in. The family remains devastated by the loss, remembering Brown as a loving mother, daughter, and dedicated TSA officer.
