Nekko Marcos Herrera, a 19-year-old male from Saint Cloud, Florida, tragically lost his life on April 11, 2025. Authorities responded to reports of a shooting at a mobile home park on Kellchris Lane in Saint Cloud. Upon arrival, deputies had limited information about the incident, but soon received confirmation from the University of Central Florida Hospital that Herrera had succumbed to his injuries. Another individual was also wounded in the attack and was airlifted to a separate hospital for emergency surgery, where he was reported to be in stable condition.
Investigators later determined that the shooting stemmed from an escalating dispute among a group of young adults over a romantic conflict. Text messages exchanged between the individuals involved led to a planned meeting to resolve the disagreement. However, the situation took a deadly turn when 42-year-old Orvill Osorio-Ortiz allegedly orchestrated an ambush. Armed with a Glock-style firearm, Osorio-Ortiz reportedly waited for the group to arrive before opening fire on their vehicle, striking Herrera and another victim.
Witnesses at the scene identified Osorio-Ortiz as the shooter, and evidence collected by law enforcement further linked him to the crime. Authorities tracked him down in Pasco County and arrested him on May 14, charging him with one count of first-degree murder and four counts of attempted first-degree murder. It was also revealed that Osorio-Ortiz was on probation for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon at the time of the shooting. Sheriff Marcos Lopez described the tragic incident as a senseless act of violence that originated from a dispute over a girl, ultimately resulting in the loss of Herrera's life.
