On March 4, 2025, 25-year-old Latisha Soares, a Native Hawaiian woman from Mountain View, Hawaii, was fatally shot in a domestic violence incident that escalated into a deadly confrontation. The suspect, 28-year-old Isaiah Kaleo Jiaan Fourshey, was the ex-boyfriend of Latisha's sister and was reportedly out on bail for a prior felony domestic abuse case involving his ex-girlfriend.
Despite a court order to stay away from her, Fourshey initiated a violent spree that culminated in Latisha's death.
The violence began shortly after midnight when Fourshey arrived at the home of his ex-girlfriend's mother on Hibiscus Street in Mountain View, searching for his former partner. Upon learning she was not there, he allegedly fired multiple shots at the woman's husband, who was not injured. Fourshey then proceeded to the residence on Plumeria Street where his ex-girlfriend and her sister, Latisha Soares, were staying. He forcibly entered the home by kicking in the front door and opened fire, striking Latisha multiple times. Emergency responders attempted life-saving measures, but Latisha was pronounced dead at 2:03 a.m. at Hilo Benioff Medical Center.
Following the shootings, a manhunt ensued for Fourshey, who was considered armed and dangerous. Later that day, around 6 p.m., law enforcement located him near the Nāmakanipaio Campground within Hawai‘i Volcanoes National Park. When confronted, Fourshey fled into a wooded area, and despite officers' attempts to apprehend him peacefully, he reportedly fired a handgun at them. Officers returned fire, and Fourshey was subsequently transported to Hilo Benioff Medical Center, where he died from his injuries. The FBI has taken over the investigation due to the incident's occurrence on federal land.
In the aftermath, authorities arrested a 37-year-old Mountain View woman accused of assisting Fourshey in evading police prior to the fatal confrontation. She was granted supervised release pending further legal proceedings. The community mourned the loss of Latisha Soares, with family and friends remembering her as a beloved daughter, sister, and wife. A GoFundMe campaign was established to support her family with funeral expenses, and services were held at Dodo Mortuary Chapel in Hilo.
