In the early hours of a Friday morning in April 2025, the life of 33-year-old McKinley Drakeford was cut short in a fatal shooting in southwest Atlanta. The incident occurred just after midnight on April 18th, on Newcastle Street, where Atlanta police officers were called to a home following a report of a shooting.
Upon their arrival, officers discovered Drakeford unresponsive at the scene, having sustained a gunshot wound.
Despite any efforts to assist him, he was pronounced dead at the location. Another man was also found at the residence with multiple gunshot wounds. He was transported to a local hospital in critical condition.
Born on November 21, 1991, McKinley Eric Drakeford III was a father and a student at the Georgia Institute of Technology, where he was majoring in computer engineering. Originally from Goldsboro, North Carolina, he had moved to Atlanta in 2015. He was known to enjoy spending time with his family, skateboarding, and playing video games.
The investigation into the shooting that claimed Drakeford's life is still ongoing, and as of the immediate reports, no further details regarding a motive or any potential suspects have been released to the public.
