On April 29, 2024, a tragic incident occurred in the Barrett Farm neighborhood of Magnolia, Delaware, resulting in the deaths of three individuals. Delaware State Police responded to reports of gunfire at approximately 6:18 p.m. Upon arrival, they discovered 38-year-old Vicky Williams, a woman of African-American descent, lying in the front yard with multiple gunshot wounds. Despite immediate lifesaving efforts, she was pronounced dead at the scene.
Inside the residence, authorities found 43-year-old Evan Cablayan, a man of Asian descent, also deceased from gunshot wounds. The suspect, 49-year-old Charles Williams, who was Vicky Williams' estranged husband, was located within the home, having died from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. Three children were present in the house during the incident but were physically unharmed.
Preliminary investigations revealed that Charles Williams had contacted a family member prior to the shootings, confessing to the murders of his wife and her new partner and expressing his intention to take his own life. This communication led authorities to consider the incident a murder-suicide. The Delaware State Police Homicide Unit continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding this event.
Vicky Williams, also known as Victoria Lynn Perez, was a dedicated educator and a U.S. Marine Corps veteran. She was remembered for her vibrant personality and commitment to her community.
