In the early morning hours of January 7, 2025, the life of 16-year-old Audrina Fedelina Arrington, a female student at Denver North High School, was tragically cut short. The fatal incident unfolded inside an Aurora, Colorado, apartment located in the 10600 block of East Jewell Avenue, where she was visiting her father. Just after 6 a.m., while it was still dark outside, two armed men forced their way into the residence, which was occupied by multiple people.
The intrusion quickly escalated into a violent struggle. The two men, later identified as Cooper Miller, 35, and David Gunion, 51, had allegedly been recruited by a woman named April Chevon Collingwood, 44. Collingwood reportedly believed that motorcycles and tools stolen from her were inside the apartment and had tasked the men with retrieving them. In the ensuing chaos, Audrina's father, who was confronted by the intruders, grabbed his own firearm. Multiple shots were fired by both sides during the confrontation. Amid the exchange of gunfire, a single bullet struck Audrina. She was not involved in the physical struggle. Emergency services were called to the scene, and the young girl was rushed to a nearby hospital, but she succumbed to her gunshot wound and died.
Following an investigation, Aurora police arrested Collingwood, Miller, and Gunion. Collingwood was charged with complicity to commit second-degree murder, first-degree burglary, and attempted aggravated robbery for her alleged role in planning the incident. Miller and Gunion faced charges of second-degree murder, first-degree burglary, and attempted aggravated robbery. Friends and family remembered Audrina as a beloved young woman with a 'purest gold heart, and a smile that would brighten up any room.'
In a later development, the Arapahoe County District Attorney's Office dropped the second-degree murder charges against all three suspects. Prosecutors stated that after a thoughtful review of the facts and law, they could not 'reasonably or ethically pursue the second-degree murder charges.' However, Collingwood, Miller, and Gunion still face the pending charges of burglary and robbery related to the home invasion that led to the teenager's death.
