In the warm evening of July 6, 2024, a gathering of young people at Highland Hollows Park in Aurora, Colorado, turned into a scene of tragedy. Fourteen-year-old Kamiaya Keyera Cleveland, a Black female, was caught in the crossfire of a dispute that erupted at a party she was attending. As a fight broke out amongst the minors at the gathering, gunfire ensued, striking Kamiaya and two other teenage girls.
