Delysia Yasmine Urbina, a 24-year-old female, was a cherished member of her community, known by friends and family as a bright and loving soul with a deep faith in God. She was committed to creating a better future for her family, a dream that would unfortunately go unrealized.
Her life was taken on February 5, 2025, just two weeks shy of her 25th birthday, in an event that sent shockwaves through those who knew her.
On that Wednesday afternoon, police responded to a 9-1-1 call reporting a disturbance and the sound of gunshots at an apartment complex on East Presidio Road. When officers arrived, they made a grim discovery inside one of the units. They found Delysia and a male, later identified as 21-year-old Omari Dequan Cannon, both with gunshot wounds. Cannon was pronounced deceased at the scene, while first responders rendered aid to Delysia. She was rushed to a local hospital but succumbed to her injuries hours later.
The subsequent investigation by the Tucson Police Department's Homicide Unit revealed a heartbreaking story of domestic violence. Detectives determined that the incident was a murder-suicide, concluding that Omari Cannon had shot Delysia before taking his own life. According to her family, Delysia had been in a tumultuous domestic relationship with Cannon for about a year and a half. In a final act of courage, she had decided to end the relationship and had packed his belongings. She was returning home from grocery shopping when she was attacked and shot multiple times.
