In the early morning hours of March 4, 2025, the life of Uriel Alejandro Hermosillo-Gomez was cut short in Tucson, Arizona. Mr. Hermosillo-Gomez, a 29-year-old Hispanic male, was found by Pima County Sheriff's Department deputies around 9:30 a.m. in the 2000 block of West Canada Street. Responding to a call about an unspecified problem, they discovered him with fatal gunshot wounds and pronounced him dead at the scene. The incident's proximity to John E.
White Elementary School prompted a brief lockdown as a precautionary measure, which was lifted after authorities determined there was no ongoing danger to students or staff.
Homicide detectives with the Pima County Sheriff's Department immediately began an investigation. Their work quickly led them to a suspect, 19-year-old Quincy Brown. On March 11, 2025, investigators located Brown’s residence near the 6000 block of East 27th Street and placed it under surveillance. When Brown left the home, he was stopped and questioned. After a Pima Regional SWAT team executed a search warrant at the residence, Brown was arrested.
While Brown was in custody, the investigation continued. On April 25, 2025, he was formally charged with the first-degree murder of Uriel Hermosillo-Gomez. As detectives delved deeper into the circumstances of the shooting, they identified a second suspect involved in the crime. Authorities arrested 46-year-old Woodrow Jones without incident and booked him into the Pima County Adult Detention Complex, also on a charge of first-degree murder.
Both Quincy James Brown and Woodrow Jones ultimately reached plea agreements with prosecutors. Instead of facing murder charges at trial, both men pleaded guilty to manslaughter. On November 17, 2025, Quincy Brown was sentenced to 15 years in prison. Woodrow Jones received his sentence on January 13, 2026, and was ordered to serve 10.5 years in prison. Sentences for any other charges were set to run concurrently. With the sentencing of both men, the case was resolved as of January 2026.
