On March 27, 2025, 21-year-old African American woman Gennia Grimes, a student at Alabama State University and a member of the Honey Beez dance team, was fatally shot in Pike Road, Alabama. Emergency responders found her with a life-threatening gunshot wound on U.S. Highway 80 East in the Waugh community.
