On March 1, 1992, Lashawna Streeter, a 27-year-old African-American woman, was last seen in St. Augustine, Florida, at a location known for sex work. She entered a vehicle driven by William Darrell Lindsey, a 56-year-old white male. According to Lindsey's later confession, he assaulted and killed her after she allegedly attempted to rob him.
