Jeffrey Dean Gerald, a 25-year-old Caucasian male, was last seen on February 24, 1985, in San Francisco, California. Standing at 6 feet 3 inches tall and weighing approximately 170 pounds, with brown hair and blue eyes, Gerald informed his roommate that he was going to assist someone with a moving job—a common side gig for him. These calls, totaling twelve over six weeks, suggested a persistent attempt by Ng to maintain contact with Gerald. On the morning of his disappearance, Gerald mentioned he was going to help someone move, implying a possible connection to Ng's earlier calls.

The investigation into Gerald's disappearance gained momentum following the arrest of Leonard Lake on June 2, 1985. Lake was apprehended after a shoplifting incident in South San Francisco. During police questioning, Lake ingested cyanide and died shortly thereafter. Subsequent searches of Lake's property in Wilseyville, California, uncovered a bunker containing videotapes, journals, and personal belongings of multiple victims. Among the evidence were items linked to Gerald and other missing individuals. Although Gerald's body was never recovered, the circumstantial evidence strongly implicated Lake and Ng in his presumed murder.

Charles Ng fled to Canada shortly after Lake's arrest but was apprehended and extradited to the United States in 1991. He stood trial for multiple counts of murder, including the presumed killing of Jeffrey Dean Gerald. In 1999, Ng was convicted and sentenced to death. As of now, he remains on death row in California.
