In a case that shook Morgan County, Indiana, a young mother and her three small children, including two-year-old Mark Chasteen, were tragically murdered in April 1979. The family fell victim to a man who feigned the need to offer them assistance on the side of a highway.
The events unfolded when Terry Chasteen, a 21-year-old mother, was driving with her three children: five-year-old Misty Zollers, four-year-old Stephen Chasteen, and two-year-old Mark Chasteen. A man named Steven T.
Judy motioned for her to pull over, indicating a problem with her vehicle. After she stopped, Judy disabled her car and persuaded her to accept a ride with him and her children. This act of feigned kindness quickly turned into a horrific ordeal.
Hunters later discovered Terry Chasteen's body in White Lick Creek near Mooresville. A subsequent police search of the area found the bodies of her three children. The investigation revealed that Terry had been raped and then strangled to death. Her children, including Mark, died from drowning after being thrown into the creek.
The investigation led to the arrest of Steven T. Judy. During his trial, Judy presented an insanity defense and provided a detailed confession of the crimes. He was subsequently convicted on four counts of murder. In February 1980, Steven T. Judy was sentenced to death for the murders of Terry Chasteen and her three children. After waiving his appeals, he was executed in March 1981.
