On December 24, 1993, Charlotte Dickerson, an African American woman from Fort Worth, Texas, was murdered during a violent robbery carried out by Desmond Dominique Jennings and his accomplice, John Freeman. This incident was part of a broader crime spree targeting drug houses in the area. On that same day, another victim, Dino Beasley, was also killed by Jennings and Freeman.
Jennings, born on October 4, 1971, in Tarrant County, Texas, had previously worked as a nursing aide before turning to a life of crime. Between October and December 1993, he was involved in a series of drug-related robberies and murders in Fort Worth. Authorities confirmed his involvement in at least five murders, including those of Charlotte Dickerson, Dino Beasley, Sylvester Walton, and Wonda Matthews, and suspected him in as many as twenty.
The investigation into these crimes led to the arrest of John Freeman on January 3, 1994, when he was found driving a vehicle matching the description of one used in a recent robbery. A search of the car revealed a loaded. 32-caliber handgun in the trunk. Ballistics tests linked this weapon to the murders of Walton and Matthews. Subsequently, Jennings was arrested and charged with multiple counts of capital murder. In July 1995, he was convicted for the murders of Walton and Matthews and received a death sentence. Freeman was convicted of murder and sentenced to 30 years in prison.
Jennings was executed by lethal injection on November 16, 1999, at the Huntsville Unit in Huntsville, Texas. He resisted the execution process, requiring a team of guards to forcibly remove him from his cell. He declined to make a final statement before his execution.
