Charles Dickerson was murdered on January 3, 1980, in a motel in South Lake Tahoe, California. His body was discovered beneath a bed, bound and gagged, and he had died of asphyxiation. The crime was part of a series of violent offenses committed by Donald Eugene Harding, a serial killer and robber who had escaped from an Arkansas jail in September 1979.
