On April 28, 1980, 15-year-old Theresa Smith, a white female, was found murdered in her home in Newark, Ohio. The case remained unsolved for decades, with no arrests made. In 2022, journalist Grace Kahng and her investigative team identified John Getreu as a possible suspect in Theresa's death. Getreu, who lived two blocks from Theresa's residence at the time of the murder, was previously convicted of other homicides. Despite this identification, no charges have been filed against Getreu in connection with Theresa Smith's case.
