On a crisp autumn day, November 1, 1952, Victor Harold "Bunk" Travis, a 43-year-old White/Caucasian farmer from Adams County, Wisconsin, set out for a deer hunting trip, a decision that would lead to his mysterious disappearance. He was accompanied by a man he had recently met, an acquaintance from Milwaukee known as Ray Burgess.
