​Glenda Jones, a 17-year-old African American female, was tragically murdered on June 25, 1993, in Centreville, Illinois. Her body was discovered behind Martin Luther King Junior High School, near the boundary between East St. Louis and Centreville. An autopsy revealed that she had been stabbed to death and sexually assaulted. At the time of her death, Glenda had just completed her first day of work at Illinois Public Action in Belleville .​
