Glenda Jones, a 17-year-old African American female, was tragically murdered on June 25, 1993, in Centreville, Illinois. Her body was discovered behind Martin Luther King Junior High School, near the boundary between East St. Louis and Centreville. An autopsy revealed that she had been stabbed to death and sexually assaulted. At the time of her death, Glenda had just completed her first day of work at Illinois Public Action in Belleville .

The investigation into Glenda's death led to the arrest of Lorenzo Fayne, a 22-year-old African American male residing in East St. Louis. Fayne was apprehended on July 24, 1993, after a trail of blood from another crime scene led authorities to his grandmother's home, where he was living. Upon questioning, Fayne confessed not only to Glenda's murder but also to the killings of four other young individuals: Aree Hunt, age 6; Faith Davis, age 17; Fallon Flood, age 9; and Latonda Dean, age 14. These crimes occurred between 1989 and 1993 and involved heinous acts of sexual assault and murder .

Fayne was initially tried and convicted for the murder of Aree Hunt, receiving a life sentence without parole. Subsequently, he pleaded guilty to the murders of Glenda Jones, Faith Davis, Fallon Flood, and Latonda Dean. In 2001, he was sentenced to death for these crimes. However, in 2003, Illinois Governor George Ryan commuted all death sentences in the state, including Fayne's, to life imprisonment without the possibility of parole .
