On February 17, 2019, 47-year-old African American female Tamela D. Sullivan was found fatally shot in her home in Calumet Park, a suburb of Chicago, Illinois. Authorities responded to reports of gunfire in the 1100 block of West 127th Place shortly before 1 a.m. Upon arrival, officers discovered Tamela and her 26-year-old son, Raynard Sullivan, both suffering from gunshot wounds. Tamela had sustained a fatal wound to her chest, while Raynard had been shot in the neck.
Both were pronounced dead at the scene.
A young child was present in the home during the incident but was unharmed. The child was taken to a hospital for observation.
Following the shootings, investigators identified 49-year-old Reginald Sullivan, Tamela's husband and Raynard's father, as a person of interest. He was subsequently arrested on February 21, 2019, and charged with two counts of first-degree murder in connection with the deaths of his wife and son. Reginald Sullivan was ordered to be held without bond and was scheduled to appear in court on February 27, 2019. At the time of the reports, it was not immediately known if he had legal representation.
