In the spring of 2013, a brutal and calculated attack cut short the life of Ronald Eugene 'Ron' Clark, a 57-year-old Caucasian male from the Atlanta, Georgia area. On the afternoon of April 26th, Clark was found near his van on Marietta Boulevard, having been both beaten and shot. Despite being rushed to Grady Hospital, he succumbed to his injuries.
The investigation into Clark's death revealed a chilling sequence of events.
Earlier that day, he had cashed a check, a routine act that police believe made him a target. It is thought that at least one assailant was lying in wait in the back of his van. As Clark drove, the attacker emerged and assaulted him with a hammer. A struggle ensued, during which Clark was shot.
Witnesses reported seeing a man flee from Clark's van and jump into a black Jeep Cherokee that sped away from the scene. The Jeep, described as a limited edition model from between 2008 and 2010 with side panels, had its license plate obscured by a white cloth, thwarting immediate identification. Investigators believe at least three individuals were involved in the crime.
In the years following the murder, the Atlanta Police Department has continued to seek leads, at one point releasing surveillance video from a nearby business and a passing MARTA bus in the hopes of identifying the suspects. This footage captured one of the individuals believed to be involved getting into the getaway vehicle. Police have also indicated they have DNA evidence from the scene, as the attacker reportedly dropped both the hammer and the gun while fleeing. They have theorized that the murder may have been orchestrated by someone who knew Clark, possibly an employee aware that he would be cashing a large check that day to pay his workers. Despite these investigative efforts, the case remains unsolved, and no arrests have been made in connection with the murder of Ronald Clark. His family continues to await justice.
