On July 2, 1995, Susan Ferguson, a 41-year-old Caucasian female, was working as a security guard at a construction site in Dallas, Texas. Born on January 29, 1954, Susan was dedicated to her role in ensuring the safety of the premises she oversaw.

In the early hours of that day, Susan's routine patrol was violently interrupted by Juan Rodriguez Chavez and his accomplice, Hector Fernandez. The duo had embarked on a crime spree, having earlier stolen a car from a Greyhound maintenance facility. Upon arriving at the construction site, Chavez approached Susan and, without provocation, shot her in the face. In a final act of brutality, they ran over her body with the stolen vehicle before fleeing the scene.

This heinous act was part of a larger series of crimes committed by Chavez and Fernandez over several months in 1995, culminating in multiple murders and armed robberies. Chavez, previously convicted of murder in 1985 and paroled in 1994, exhibited a pattern of escalating violence. Following their crime spree, both Chavez and Fernandez were apprehended by law enforcement. Chavez was subsequently convicted of capital murder and received a death sentence in 1996. He was executed by lethal injection on April 22, 2003.

Susan Ferguson's tragic death serves as a somber reminder of the dangers faced by security personnel and the devastating impact of violent crime on communities.
