The elder Demond Taylor, an off-duty police officer for St. Louis Community College–Florissant Valley, was on his way to pick up his sons when his life was cut short. It was just after 6 p.m. on June 20, 2008, when Taylor was shot while stopped in his car at a traffic light on Page Boulevard. For seventeen years, his case remained unsolved, a painful open wound for his family, including his son Dejuan who was only six at the time of his father's death. Investigators eventually concluded that Taylor's killing was a tragic case of mistaken identity, believing he was mistaken for a rival gang member. A breakthrough in the long-dormant case came with the testimony of a third eyewitness, which ultimately led to an arrest. In August 2025, Brandon M. Levy was charged with first-degree murder in connection with Taylor's death. On a Sunday evening, February 16, 2025, 18-year-old Demond Taylor was fatally shot in north St. Louis County. The shooting occurred around 5:17 p.m. in the 11900 block of Larimore Road. When officers arrived at the scene, they found the young man with life-threatening gunshot wounds. He was rushed to a nearby hospital, but his injuries proved fatal, and he was pronounced dead. The family of this young Demond Taylor remembered him as a kind person who was deeply loved. He was a frequent visitor to the Spanish Lake Market, where he was shot. At the time of the initial reports, no suspects were in custody, and police were asking for anyone with information to come forward to help bring closure to his grieving family.
