Inez Deaton, a 20-year-old woman, was brutally murdered on May 27, 1979. Her body was discovered in a field near a deserted car wash in Harris County, Texas. Inez, who was of Caucasian ethnicity, had been raped and repeatedly stabbed with an ice pick. Her partially-clothed body was found on the north slope of Greens Bayou at Homestead. The murder went unsolved for nearly two decades until a breakthrough in 1998.
In 1998, Danny Paul Bible, a 66-year-old man, was arrested in Louisiana for
another rape case. During police interrogations, Bible confessed to the rape and murder of Inez Deaton, as well as other crimes. He was dubbed "the ice pick killer" due to the nature of his attacks. Bible's confession led to his conviction for Deaton's murder in 2003. He was sentenced to death for his crimes.
Bible's criminal history extended beyond the murder of Inez Deaton. He was responsible for multiple murders, kidnappings, and rapes across three states. In 1983, he murdered Pamela Hudgins, Tracy Powers, and Powers' 4-month-old son on the same day near Mineral Wells, Texas. Bible's violent spree continued until his arrest in 1998. Despite his attorneys' arguments that his deteriorating health and severe medical conditions should preclude him from receiving the death penalty, Bible was executed by lethal injection in 2018.
